The Common Application Adds 48 New Colleges and Universities

The Common Application (CA) is announcing the addition of 48 new member colleges and universities effective July 1, 2011, bringing the total number of institutions accepting the association’s standardized application forms to 460.

Locally, Howard University, Christopher Newport University, Salisbury University, Saint Mary’s College of Maryland, and Towson University will be joining the CA team for the 2011-12 application cycle.

According to the Common Application, one-third of the new members are public institutions including two new flagships: University of Kentucky and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition, the association will welcome two new states (46 total, plus DC), four new international universities (6 total), and one new large private university—University of Southern California.

Membership in the association is open to undergraduate colleges and universities that are accredited by a regional accrediting association and are nonprofit members in good standing of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). All members must agree to promote college access by evaluating students using a “holistic” selection process.

Other local Common Application members include American, George Washington, Catholic, Johns Hopkins, Goucher, Hood, Loyola University of Maryland, Stevenson, the College of William and Mary, Mary Washington, UMBC, St. John’s of Maryland (and New Mexico), UVa, the University of Richmond, Randolph-Macon, and Virginia Wesleyan.
